Lustron House Interior Design

The Lustron house was conceived in the late 1940’s as a residential line of factory-made, affordable housing units. For this particular Lustron, located in south Minneapolis near Lake Nokomis, IOTA augmented the existing taupe-colored metal panel walls and ceiling with a who’s who cast of furniture design classics. New cork tile and astro-turf inspired carpeting set the stage for Eames plywood chairs, a Nelson bench, BluDot glass-and-cherry sideboard, Aalto vases, and modern art posters like Joseph Buey’s “Felt Suit”. Combined they create an interior that is as much a domicile as it is a showroom of modern design and art.
