Samsung Housing

For this large scale housing development in Korea, IOTA and consortium partner PDI strove for an overarching design motif that allowed the landscape, roads, and buildings to work together. The solution looks to painterly sources – such as the abstract and geometric works of Mondrian and Paul Klee – to tie all the pieces together. The Masterplan consists of rectangular sections of housing blocks divided and connected by rectilinear lines. Each housing section has its own garden theme based on native plant species - a bamboo forest, ginko grove or stands of red maple. From their high rise perches, residents can look down to view a painted landscape to rival Monet’s garden.
