Haeun Dae Condominiums
This twin tower, beach front, multi-family vacation residence was already designed when IOTA and consortium partner PDI were asked to reconsider the building’s outward appearance. Multiple design iterations for the building’s exterior explored various geometric and abstracted nautical themes, all the while obeying the local architectural prescription that new towers have a clearly defined base, middle, and top. The approved solution incorporates undulating horizontal bands of water tinted glass topped with sun shade canopies that flutter like a flock of seagull wings, and is girded at the base with a tightly knit screen of aluminum braces that evoke hand tied fishing nets.
