Mixed-use Towers, Doha, Qatar
Designed for a compact, prominent site along Doha’s high-profile corniche business district, this proposed development includes below-grade parking, a hotel and condominium tower, above-grade parking structure, eight floors of offices, and rooftop banquet and conference facilities.
Working in collaboration with PDI, the design of this scheme began with an investigation of modern and vernacular architectural forms of the Arabian peninsula, as well as an analysis of solar exposure and seaward views. The resulting design employs a series of perforated metal veils that shade the curtain wall towers from the blazing desert sun and evoke traditional screen patterns. The fan-like organization of rooms in the hotel and residential tower capitalizes on the sweeping views of the sea. At the center of the scheme, a lacey, white metal minaret emerges out of the hotel lobby that operates both as a symbol and as a unique vantage point for observing the rapidly growing city of Doha.
